CECAFA Kagame cup is back: The inter-club regional tournament to be held July 20th- 4th August, 2024

  The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed Tanzania as the host of this year’s edition of the CECAFA Kagame Cup, with the inter-club competition making a return after two years in the cold. The regional tournament will take place from July 20th to 4th August, 2024. The respective Premier League champions from the 12 Members Associations, including Zanzibar, and four other invited teams will take part in the tournament. John Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director, confirmed that some guest sides will take part in the tournament, which was last held in 2021. "We are glad that this tournament will be returning after two years to provide a brilliant preseason platform for the teams to prepare better before the start of the 2024–2025 CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup and the different Leagues back home," said Gecheo. Boost for Uganda as CAF clears Namboole to host international matches

  Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the green light to FUFA to host international matches at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium (Namboole). The facility has been under renovation for the last four years, with the Uganda Cranes forced to host home games in different countries. There were fears that the facility, which is one of the 2027 AFCON host venues, would not be cleared, forcing Uganda to host more of its international games outside the country. However, the country has now been handed a major boost after CAF cleared the Mandela Stadium to host matches, starting with the June FIFA World Cup qualifiers.   Kenyan Tennis star Angella Okutoyi will next week resume her chase for a slot in the Paris 2024 olympics when she lines up at the W35 Bethany Beach Women's Singles tournament. Okutoyi who is the Africa Games champion  will on Monday 13th May 2024 rank a career best 520th position on the WTA Standings but still needs 65 points to make the cut for the Paris Olympic games. As per the current projections, the points will push the 20year old to Players ranked between 380-400, just the required spot she needs to be eligible for the olympics. The deadline for her to attain top 400 ranking on the WTA Standings is June 10th 2024. The tournament in Delaware is set to run from 13-19May, 2024 and comes just a week after Angella suffered a heartbreaking loss to american Allie Kiick in the quaterfinals during her last attempt in Florida USA.
